The pre-ACI class and Guided Reading Program weren't approved by Maple Bear. This was discovered last Friday when a Maple Bear representative came to the school to just check up on things. It was a relief to finally meet and talk to someone from the headquarters, considering how disorganized the school is. That's when the rep talked with Julia and David and told them that they're not supposed to be running these two programs.
Jeena told me that the programs were created for the "problem kids" who weren't at the same level as the other kids in the regular program. It's basically the Level 2 or Level 3 of Maple Bear. I asked her if that's what Julia and David told her or if that's her opinion. She said the former. Everyone else (TPs and teachers) are convinced that we have the programs because the school needs money badly right now - which is true. They created them because Korean parents are intense and would gladly send their toddler to learn physics in Latin if it meant they'd get into a good university. The pre-ACI classes also have the maximum number of students allowed in one classroom (full of "problem kids") which makes teaching said classes absolute hell at times. I'm glad I teach regular ACI.
We'll see how this issue gets resolved...
